Soundview, Bronx, NY – 6-Year-Old Hospitalized After Being Struck by SUV
Soundview, Bronx, NY (December 12, 2018) – A hit-and-run driver struck a 6-year-old girl on Tuesday evening, December 11, sending the young child to a hospital in rather serious condition. According to police, the accident took place shortly after 5:00 p.m. in the Soundview section of the Bronx.
Police and emergency medical crews were dispatched to Harrod Avenue in order to assess the situation and render aid to the child. The area where the accident occurred was reported to have no traffic lights, stop signs or a crosswalk.
According to authorities, the accident happened after the child’s mother dropped her off at the intersection of Harrod Avenue and 172ndStreet. The young girl was attempting to cross the street when she was hit by an SUV that was heading west on 172nd Street and then fled the scene.
The victim was immediately transported to Jacobi MedicalCenter where she has been listed in stable condition. Although the girl was reported to have suffered facial trauma, she is expected to survive at this time.
Police are actively investigating the incident as they search for the driver involved.
