Newfield, NY – Update: Serious Collision on Shaffer Road Caused by DUI Driver
Newfield, NY (November 26, 2018) – Further details have been released concerning the serious motor vehicle accident that was reported to have occurred on Sunday evening, November 25, in Newfield. The collision that took place on Shaffer Road near Van Buskirk Gulf Road and critically injured two people was stated to have been caused by a drunk driver, according to authorities.
The accident has now been confirmed as a head-on collision that took place around 7:00 p.m. when Andrew P. Sampson crossed the double yellow line in a Dodge Ram pickup truck and struck an oncoming Ford Focus. A 31-year-old man from Newfield, a 24-year-old female from Enfield, and a 62-year-old female from Newfield were the occupants in the Focus.
Helicopters landed at the crash site in order to airlift two of the victims who were reported to have suffered critical injuries in the crash. The exact conditions of the seriously injured victims have not been provided at this time, however, both are expected to survive. Sampson was taken to Cayuga Medical Center for a minor arm injury.
Sampson was arrested and charged with vehicular assault an driving while intoxicated.
