Brooklyn, NY – Falling Equipment Kills Construction Worker on Myrtle Avenue

Brooklyn, NY (November 21, 2018) – Wednesday morning, November 21, authorities reported the death of a construction worker who died following an accident that occurred while working on the roof of a six-story condo development. The fatal mishap happened shortly after 11:00 a.m. as the victim was working on the Bedford-Stuyvesant project.

Police identified the victim as 44-year-old Over Paredes, of Newark, New Jersey. The accident was reported to have occurred when a forklift operator accidentally allowed a piece of sheet metal to fall as the machine that was holding up the material dropped to its side.

A full stop-work order was handed down following the incident as it was not made clear as to whether or not the forklift operator had been granted the proper licensing for the project. Paredes was employed as a contractor, and the accident could have been avoided if the proper safety precautions were heeded.

The incident is currently under investigation.
