Dickinson, NY – Two Children Injured Following Crash with Amish Buggy

Dickinson, NY (October 26, 2018) – A collision between a motor vehicle and an Amish buggy was said to have resulted in the injuries of two children on Thursday afternoon, October 25. The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. on State Route 11B, according to police in St. Lawrence County.

38-year-old Matthew J. Gainey, of Rensselaer Falls, was reported to have been traveling west on State Route 11B when he passed a vehicle while heading over a hill. Gainey continued on before striking the rear end of an Amish buggy that was traveling in the same direction at the time. 13-year-old Mattie D. Schlabach, 8-year-old Andy D. Schlabach, and 7-year-old Lena D. Miller were the only three occupants in the buggy.

All three of the children from North St. Lawrence were ejected from the buggy due to the impact of the collision. They were immediately transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone to be treated for their injuries.

Andy was reported to have suffered fractured vertebrae in his neck as Mattie sustained a fractured jaw bone and orbital bone during the crash. Miller was taken to the hospital as a precaution and Gainey was reported to have been unharmed in the accident.

No further information has been provided at this tie as police are continuing an investigation into this incident.
