New Baltimore, NY – Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on State Route 9W
New Baltimore, NY (October 24, 2018) – A collision between two motor vehicles took place on Tuesday afternoon, October 23. The accident which was reported to have resulted in the death of one individual occurred on State Route 9W at around 4:30 p.m. in the town of New Baltimore.
According to police, an 18-year-old male from Hannacroix was sitting idle in the southbound lane, waiting to turn left onto Kretimier Road. A pickup truck that was also heading south on State Route 9W failed to avoid the stopped vehicle and slammed into the rear-end of the car. 61-year-old Mark Sterritt, of Athens, was the operator of the pickup and continued to veer off the right shoulder and into a concrete culvert after striking the other vehicle.
State police along with the New Baltimore Fire Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the crash site to assist the victim and assess the damages. Sterritt was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Neither the 18-year-old driver nor his two passengers were injured in the accident.
No further information has been released at this time. Authorities are currently investigating the crash.
