Thompson, NY – Fatal Car Crash Claims Life of Monticello Man
Thompson, NY (October 17, 2018) – State police confirmed the death of one man who lost his life after being struck by a wrong-way driver on Route 17 Tuesday night, October 16. The fatal crash was reported to have happened at around 10:15 p.m. in the vicinity of exit 103.
According to police in charge of the investigation, 50-year-old Patrick Collins, of Stroudsburg, Pa, was driving a 2015 Toyota eastward in the westbound lanes of Route 17. The wrong way driver proceeded down the roadway for a short time before colliding with a 2002 Honda that was being driven by 33-year-old Luiz Diaz, of Monticello.
Emergency crews were immediately on the scene and sadly pronounced Diaz dead shortly after they arrived. One passenger in Diaz’s car, 27-year-old Cynthia Acevedo, of Monticello, along with Collins were both airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla to be treated for their injuries.
There were no more details provided in regards to the nature of the incident or the conditions of the surviving victims. State police are currently continuing the investigation into this accident.
