Ronkonkoma, NY – One Struck and Killed by Train Causes Temporary Service Suspension

Ronkonkoma, NY (October 17, 2018) – One person was tragically struck and killed in a train accident that took place early on Wednesday morning, October 17. The accident occurred at around 12:43 a.m. and resulted in the temporary service suspension of the Ronkonkoma Branch, according to the Long Island Rail Road.

The suspension was put into place between Ronkonkoma and Brentwood, which is the area where the fatal collision was reported to have taken place. Specifically, the reports stated that the victim was struck by a non-passenger train, just a little west of the Ronkonkoma station.

The victim was later confirmed to be a woman in her 30’s, although her identity is being withheld in order to provide time to notify family members. The LIRR stated that all services in the area were restored as of 2:38 a.m.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is currently conducting the investigation into this accident.
