Manhattan, NY – Car Jumps Curb and Kills Elderly Woman on Upper East Side
Manhattan, NY (October 5, 2018) – A car was reported to have jumped a curb Friday afternoon, October 5, striking and killing an 84-year-old woman. The accident took place at East 79th Street and Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side at around 3:20 p.m., according to authorities.
A preliminary investigation into the incident showed that a grey Land Rover which was heading north on Madison Avenue ended up jumping over a curb after attempting to make a left turn onto East 79th Street. Unable to immediately stop, the Land Rover continued on the sidewalk and came to a rest after crashing into nearby scaffolding.
EMS were promptly on the scene in an effort to assist the victim who was found unconscious with injuries to her head and body. Tragically, the elderly victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained at the scene and traffic was backed up in the area as police began their investigation.
