New York City comptroller Scott Stringer developed a program designed to identify problems regarding the city’s services in order to target areas where safety may be compromised, The New York Times reported on July 9.

The initiative is called Claimstat, which is a database that records thousands of personal injury or general negligence claims made against the city by people seeking financial compensation for accidents they believe the city is responsible for. It was patterned after the New York Police Department’s CompStat program, a tool that city police use to map out and track criminal activity, Stringer said in a report. When claims patterns are discovered, unsafe areas can be effectively targeted for maintenance.

Despite safety measures, accidents unfortunately do still occur all over New York. If you have been injured due to the negligence of someone else, the attorneys at Hach & Rose, LLP, can help you review your legal options and may help you hold the responsible party financially accountable.
