Watertown, NY (July 5, 2019) – On Wednesday, July 3rd, police were promptly summoned to the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash that took place on State Route 3 in Watertown. The collision between a motorcycle and a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu was reported to have happened around 3:15 p.m.
According to police, Jerry J. Hanlon, 55, of Watertown, was riding a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle west along State Route 3. Authorities believe Hanlon then failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with Towne Center Drive and subsequently collided with the Malibu, operated by 38-year-old Joseph R. Wood, of Altmar. Hanlon struck the passenger side of the vehicle and was ejected upon impact.
Emergency crews transported the victim to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, where he was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later. Wood did not suffer any injuries in the crash, which is actively under investigation.
