Phelps, NY – Bicyclist Seriously Hurt in Crash with Pickup Truck

Phelps, NY (July 3, 2019) – A man is currently in critical condition after being hit by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle in the town of Phelps. The accident was reported to have taken place around 9:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, June 30^th, on County Route 23, just west of Jones Road, according to authorities.

Police Deputies have stated that Michael Tiffany, 61, of Newark, was traveling along the side of Route 23 when the driver of a pickup truck, identified only as a 59-year-old man from Stanley, drifted onto the shoulder of the roadway. The driver of the truck stated that he was distracted at the time as he was looking to avoid a deer on the other side of the road.

Emergency medical crews were summoned to the accident site, where they transported Tiffany to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The victim was reported to be in critical, albeit stable condition. The events surrounding this incident are under further investigation at this time.
