Mayville, NY – Four Hospitalized Following Boat Explosion on Chautauqua Lake

Mayville, NY (July 4, 2019) – Deputies with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Officer were immediately sent to the scene of an incident in which a bot exploded on the Chautauqua Lake on Wednesday afternoon, July 3rd. The explosion occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. near the Chautauqua Marina in Mayville, according to police.
Officials stated that the incident occurred 100 feet from the shore and both employees of the marina and bystanders rushed to help the victims. Emergency responder arrived a short time later to assist those who were involved in the explosion.
According to authorities, a man three children sustained burns during the incident. All four victims were promptly airlifted to nearby trauma centers to be treated. At this time, deputies have stated that the official cause of the explosion is being investigated.
