The Bronx, NY (June 30, 2019) – Police responded to the scene of a fatal crash where an 11-year-old girl was killed on the Major Deegan Expressway last night, around 10:30 p.m.
Police say that the accident took place when an SUV was traveling south and struck another vehicle in the area, which caused a chain-reaction accident.
A witness who was able to see down onto the accident from his apartment said that one of the vehicles was pinned between the vehicle that struck it and a retaining wall. People in other vehicles pulled over to assist those at the scene of the accident.
Firefighters responded and had to peel the roof off of one of the vehicles using the jaws of life. Multiple parties were seriously injured and CPR was used to revive them.
Multiple children were part of the injured. An 11-year-old girl died at the scene of the accident, though no other details have been released.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time.
