Copake, NY (June 21, 2019) – The Columbia County Sheriff’s office has released the identity of a man who was found dead after a car fire that occurred last Friday, June 14th. Authorities stated that 32-year-old Rudy Martinez, of Copake, was killed in the incident which took place around 12:05 a.m. on North Mountain Road.

On the morning of the tragic incident, firefighters were dispatched to 543 North Mountain Road in Copake, where they found a 2006 Volkswagen on fire in the driveway. After extinguishing the blaze, they discovered Martinez’s body in the front passenger seat, along with a deceased dog.

Following the autopsy of Martinez, it was established that the cause of death was inhalation of noxious fumes, according to the sheriff’s office. However, the extensive fire damage has hindered the accuracy of that determination and authorities are continuing to investigate at this time.
