North Babylon, NY (June 16, 2019) – Police claim that a man from West Islip was injured in an accident after a wrong-way accident on the Sunrise Highway today, June 16th.
Police arrived at the scene of the accident around 12:15 p.m. where they found that 74-year-old Robert Wolf entered the highway in a 2007 Chevy Malibu and had been traveling west in the eastbound lanes. His vehicle struck a 2002 Dodge pickup truck driven by a man named John Gallagher.
A wheel fell off of the pickup truck during the crash, then striking a 2018 Volvo. A motorcyclist also attempted to avoid the wheel, which kept rolling and lead to another accident.
Police say that Wolf suffered a medical incident prior to the crash and he was transported to the Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of his injuries. A passenger in the Malibu was not hurt and no other injuries were reported.
The investigation into the accident continues at this time.
