Shoreham, NY – Update: High School Senior Passes Away After Accident

Shoreham, NY (June 15, 2019) – A high school senior from Shoreham-Wading River High School was seriously injured in an accident and police have now reported that she has passed away.
The 18-year-old, identified as Melissa Marchese, was taken to the Stony Brook University Hospital for recovery but, while there, she tragically passed away due to severe trauma from her injuries.
The accident took place when Marchese and two of her friends were headed to an award ceremony around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. The teens turned left from Miller Avenue onto Route 25A when a Honda broadsided their vehicle. The driver has since been identified as a 34-year-old man. The driver of the Honda went through the light just as it turned red.
Marchese received severe head injuries and was hospitalized as a result. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
