Midtown Manhattan, NY – Update: Pilot Killed in Helicopter Crash Identified

Midtown, Manhattan, NY (June 11, 2019) – The identity of the pilot who was tragically killed in a helicopter crash that occurred on Monday afternoon, June 10th, has been released by authorities. Tim McCormack, of Clinton Corners, took off from the East 34th Street heliport and crash-landed on top of a 51-story building located at 787 Seventh Avenue approximately 11 minutes later, around 2:00 p.m.
The devastating crash resulted in a fire on the roof of the AXA Equitable Center and prompted responses from multiple crews including the FDNY and emergency medical technicians. McCormack, a well-respected volunteer fire chief at the Clinton Fire Department, lost contact with the LGA tower shortly after take-off and attempted a crash landing which resulted in the incident.
At this time, the National Transportation Safety Board has taken charge of the investigation into the cause of this crash.
