Constantia, NY: Motorcycle Passenger Injured in Accident on Rte. 49

Constantia, NY (June 10, 2019) – State police responded to a serious motorcycle accident that occurred in the Oswego County town of Constantia on Sunday, June 9th, that resulted in injuries. The incident was reported to have taken place around 7:30 p.m. on State Route 49, according to authorities.
An investigation into the events that led to this accident revealed that a 1999 Honda motorcycle being driven by 51-year-old Richard P. Gilbert, of Bernhards Bay, was the only vehicle involved. According to police, Gilbert quickly shifted into a higher gear, causing his passenger, identified as Shelly A. Burghart, 49, to let go and be ejected from the bike.
Burghart fell to the ground and struck her face and head against the road. Emergency medical crews were quickly called to the scene, where they transported the injured victim to SUNY Upstate Medical Center. She has since been listed in serious condition, according to authorities.
The investigation into this accident is ongoing and Gilbert was reported to be facing charges for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, as well as unregistered motorcycle and improper license plates.
