Wilmington, NY – Person Killed in Fire on Springfield Road

Wilmington, NY (June 3, 2019) – At 9:13 a.m. on Saturday, June 1st, a fire was reported to have broken out at a home located at 1158 Springfield Road. The fire occurred for reasons that are currently undetermined.
According to authorities, the building where the fire took place was a multi-unit dwelling, and firefighters were called to the scene along with police and emergency medical responders. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, one person was found deceased inside the building.
Francis Whitelaw, the Essex County Coroner, arrived at the scene and authorized the removal of the victim’s body. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire likely started on the ground floor of the building and then spread throughout the structure. The identity of the victim has not been established, as the details and cause of the fire remain under investigation at this time.
