Merrick, NY – Pedestrian Struck and Critically Injured at Intersection

Merrick, NY (May 28, 2019) – Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28th, a woman was sadly hit and critically injured by a vehicle, according to police. Authorities stated that the accident took place at the intersection of Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway for reasons that are currently being investigated.
The victim, who has only been identified as a woman, was reported to have been struck by an unspecified vehicle while either walking along or crossing the roadway. Police and emergency medical crews were dispatched to the accident site, where they transported the severely injured woman to a nearby hospital. She is currently listed in critical condition.
Police stated that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities. No charges have been filed at this time but authorities are working to establish the official cause of the accident.
