Sheldon, NY – Fatal Crash on Route 20 Takes Three Lives This Morning

Sheldon, NY (May 26, 2019) – This morning, deputies were called to the scene of a fatal crash that took place on Route 20A and took three lives, including the life of a child.

At the time, deputies reported that an SUV with a family of nine people from New Jersey were driving westbound on the highway when a pickup truck came through an intersection, then striking the family in the SUV.

In the SUV were a man, three women, and five children. Two adult women were ejected from the vehicle and, due to the force, were pronounced dead at the scene. One of the 4-year-olds was taken to a local hospital with head injuries and died after an hour.

Various other parties, including the adult male, a 14-year-old, a 10-year-old, and two 4-year-olds, were also hospitalized with injuries.

The driver who caused the accident was identified as 20-year-old Richard Sawicki, who was taken to the hospital and then charged with vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and more.

Further charges are expected and the investigation continues at this time.
