Central Islip, NY: Woman Arrested After DWI That Injured Child

Central Islip, NY (May 26, 2019) – Around 9:00 p.m. last night, May 25th, a woman from East Patchogue was arrested after a DWI accident that injured a child. The accident took place when the woman had been driving while intoxicated.
57-year-old Sandra Stewart was driving her Camry on the Motor Parkway when she attempted to turn left onto Joshua’s Path but crashed head-on into a Honda SUV. There had been a 5-year-old child in the back of the Honda who was seriously injured.
Authorities confirmed that the child was taken by ambulance to one hospital and then airlifted to another to be treated for their injuries. The driver of the Honda, 23-year-old Hugo Chavez, and his other passengers did not receive injuries.
Stewart was injured but not badly. She was then arrested for driving while intoxicated for the accident.
The investigation into the circumstances of the crash continues at this time.
