Queens, NY (May 25, 2019) – On Tuesday, a crash took place involving a sanitation truck that caused one damaged vehicle and debris strewn all over the roadway.
The accident took place at 21st Street, which led to an eight-vehicle pileup. Police said the damages were so bad and dirt was strewn everywhere and it looked like a “war zone” with some vehicles ripped to shreds.
Police confirmed that the driver of the sanitation truck lost control of his vehicle, slamming into a parked car around 7:00 p.m. that evening and causing the accident. Police believe that the garbage truck driver was backing up and did not realize that there were vehicles behind him.
One of the people involved in the accident suffered injuries but has since been released from the hospital and is expected to be okay.
The 39-year-old driver of the sanitation truck stayed at the scene of the accident. He told officers that he hit the gas even though he was trying to hit his brakes.
The investigation into the accident continues.
