East Islip, NY: Many Hospitalized After Trolley Accident at Union.

East Islip, NY (May 19, 2019) – Multiple people were hospitalized around 2:00 p.m. today, May 19th, after a trolley accident that took place at a local intersection.
According to Suffolk Police, a vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed into a trolley bus that was headed to a wedding. The accident took place at the intersection of Union Boulevard and Hardwood Avenue.
Police say that, at the time, a woman was driving an Alfa Romeo vehicle and failed to stop at a stop sign. She collided with the trolley bus that had been headed west.
The vehicle then struck a pole and wires came down.
At the time, police say that the trolley bus contained 11 passengers and a driver. Five people were taken to the hospital with injuries but are expected to recover.
The driver of the Alfa Romeo was also injured. She is expected to be okay and was issued a summons for failing to stop at a stop sign.
The investigation into the accident continues at this time.
