Ashland, NY (May 18, 2019) – Last night, police responded to the scene of a motorcycle accident on Wilawana Road that hospitalized one person in Ashland.
A motorcyclist and his passenger were headed eastbound on their bike at the time when they pulled over onto the shoulder to look at a bear they saw. The New York State Police then confirmed that a van driving behind them suddenly crashed into their motorcycle on the side of the road.
Police believe that the van driver did not know that they were going to turn off the side of the road and was not paying attention to them, slamming into the back of the motorcycle.
The passenger of the motorcycle was injured and taken to the Robert Packer Hospital but is expected to be okay.
Police did not confirm whether or not charges will be filed, but the investigation continues at this time.
