Borough Park, NY – 16-Year-Old Bicyclist Struck and Killed by Box Truck

Borough Park, NY (May 17, 2019) – A 16-year-old boy tragically lost his life while riding his bicycle along 17th Avenue in Borough Park on Wednesday evening, May 15. According to authorities, the incident, which involved a parked vehicle and a moving box truck, took place at around 5:38 p.m. near the intersection of 53rd Street.
Police stated that the victim had been traveling on his bike on 17th Avenue when he quickly had to swerve in order to avoid an opening car door along the side of the road. The teen fell to the ground near the intersection as a result when a box truck that was traveling just behind him struck the victim.
Emergency medical responders were immediately called to the scene where they transported the boy to Maimonides Hospital. He was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. The investigation into this incident is likely ongoing.
