Tribeca, NY: Woman’s Leg Severed After Ped Accident at Murray St

Tribeca, NY (May 12, 2019) – Police confirmed that one is facing charges after a pedestrian accident that took place at the intersection of Murray and West Streets.
The accident took place on Friday night, around 10:00 p.m., when a driver in a Smart car, identified as 27-year-old Travis Funes, of Brooklyn, tried to make a U-turn at high speeds. This caused him to spin out of control, striking a 42-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man.
Both of the victims were taken to the Bellevue Hospital. The man received minor injuries, while the woman was seriously injured and had been pinned to a utility pole at the scene of the crash. Her leg was severed below the knee.
Funes has since been charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and failing to yield to a pedestrian. Residents in the area say that the intersection is a notoriously dangerous area.
The investigation into the accident continues at this time.
