Oakdale, NY: Ped Struck and Killed by Vehicle while Crossing Sunrise

Oakdale, NY (May 6, 2019) – A man was unfortunately struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Sunday, May 6^th, on Sunrise Highway, according to police. The incident was reported to have happened at approximately 12:00 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

According to authorities, the man, who has not been identified, was walking across Sunrise Highway near Connetquot Avenue when he was hit by a 2017 Audi. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness stated that the victim may have been running across the highway before jumping off a barricade at the time of the incident. However, the details surrounding the events that led to this accident have not been confirmed by authorities.

Police said that the female driver of the Audi was the sole occupant and that she remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The vehicle was subsequently impounded for a safety check and an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
