Bath, NY (May 6, 2019) – Authorities have now released the identities of those involved in a tragically fatal pedestrian accident that took place on Friday afternoon, May 3rd. The accident, which was reported to have happened at approximately 12:30 p.m., occurred on State Route 415, according to police.
Troopers stated that 45-year-old Tonia Smith, of Painted Post, was driving while intoxicated along the aforementioned road when she struck Donald Masti, 56, of Bath. Masti had been attempting to walk across the road at the time of the incident. Emergency medical crews at the scene quickly transported Masti to Ira Davenport Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.
Smith was subsequently arrested and charged with DWI and vehicular manslaughter, among other charges. She has been taken to Steuben County Jail and is being held on $25,000 cash bail.
