Mastic, NY (May 5, 2019) – Police responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident that took place at the intersection of Herkimer Street and Carlton Street around 8:50 p.m. last night.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was crossing the intersection when he was suddenly struck by a 2009 Chevy Tahoe. The driver was identified as a 55-year-old man from Mastic, who stopped at the scene of the accident and immediately called 911.
Suddenly, another vehicle came barreling through the area and struck the pedestrian a second time headed southbound. However, the driver of that vehicle fled the scene and authorities are still searching for them.
The pedestrian was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. As of now, the investigation into the accident continues.
