Freeport, NY – Man Arrested and Charged with Attempted Rape

Freeport, NY (May 1, 2019) – On Tuesday, April 30th, a man from Freeport was arrested after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman at knifepoint. The incident was reported to have happened behind a building on South Main Street around 11:30 a.m. on April, 24th, according to authorities.
20-year-old Umari Taylor, of Ocean Avenue North, has been charged with the violent attempted rape of an unidentified woman. According to police, the victim, a 44-year-old woman, was walking alone behind an apartment building when Taylor approached her with a knife. The suspect held the knife against her and ordered her to remove her pants. During the altercation, Taylor allegedly insisted that the suspect engage in a sexual act before fleeing from the scene.
According to police, Taylor ran off after exposing himself, which made the victim scream. The police released a surveillance photo of the suspect prior to the weekend, which ultimately led to Taylor’s arrest.
