Lynbrook, NY – 70-Year-Old Man Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver

Lynbrook, NY (April 26, 2019) – Police stated that they have arrested a man who is allegedly responsible for hitting and killing a 70-year-old man with his vehicle on Thursday night, April 25^th, before fleeing the scene. 48-year-old Harley Dix, of Lynbrook, was reported to have struck the elderly pedestrian at around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Blossom Health Avenue and Merrick Road.

According to Nassau Police, the victim was attempting to walk across Merrick Road when he was struck by a gray 2012 Nissan Sentra that continued driving after the incident. The victim was tragically pronounced dead shortly after the accident and police later found the vehicle involved in the town of Hewlett.

Dix was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death. His bail was set at $40,000 and he has been ordered to return to court on April 30^th, according to authorities. The identity of the victim has not been released in order to provide time to notify loved ones.
