Hudson Valley, NY – Motorcyclist Hit and Injured by School Bus

Hudson Valley, NY (April 26, 2019) – On Thursday morning, April 25th, police and paramedics were called to the area of Route 9W and Cross Street in the town of Ulster Park to assist with a serious collision between a school bus and motorcyclist. The accident happened at approximately 7:00 a.m. when the school bus carrying middle school students crashed into a man on a motorcycle for reasons that are under investigation.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find 26-year-old Corey Thomas, of Kingston, suffering from serious injuries. A medical helicopter was brought to the crash site and Thomas was immediately flown to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital to undergo further treatment.
The driver of the Bailey Middle School bus involved, identified as 70-year-old John Chichester, of Port Ewen, was ticketed for failure to yield right of way at an intersection. Police stated that Chichester struck Thomas on his 2001 Honda motorcycle after failing to yield while entering Route 9W from Cross Street but no further details concerning the cause of the incident have been made available.
