Washington Heights, Manhattan, NY (April 19, 2019) – According to police, an off duty correction officer is facing multiple charges after he crashed into at least five vehicles early Friday morning, April 19th. The incident was reported to have taken place around 1:30 a.m. along Sherman Avenue.
Police stated that Brandon Dauo, a 28-year-old employee with the NYC Department of Corrections, had been driving while intoxicated along the aforementioned road when he struck at least five cars. The crash caused by Dauo was reported to have set off a chain reaction of accidents that ultimately resulted in the injuries of at least three people.
Dauo attempted to flee the scene, according to authorities who arrived to find him with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Emergency medical crews were also called to the scene where they attended to the injured parties, although the conditions of the victims have not been reported.
Dauo has been arrested for driving while intoxicated among other charges.
