Horseheads, NY (April 3, 2019) – State Police have now released the identity of the man who was tragically killed in a residential fire that happened on Monday morning, April 1st. 49-year-old Michael Benjamin, of Horseheads, lived inside the home at 54 Level Acres Drive that caught fire at 10:05 a.m. His deceased body was found inside the house after firefighters extinguished the fire.
According to authorities, the Horseheads Town and Country Fire Department was dispatched to the aforementioned location to battle the blaze. Firefighters were reported to have arrived at the scene to find the home already engulfed in flames. Benjamin’s body was found inside the home as crews worked to control the fire. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, there has been no cause determined as investigators are currently working to understand the events that led to the fire. No further details have been provided.
