Utica, NY (March 30, 2019) – Around 9:00 a.m. yesterday, March 29th, police were called to the scene of a pedestrian accident that took place at Sunset Avenue.
Authorities arrived at the area of Sunset Avenue near Shaw Street. While there, they discovered that a young girl was struck by a vehicle when she was attempting to cross the street.
The girl was identified as an 11-year-old who was crossing the street so that she could arrive at a bus stop. This is when she was suddenly struck.
The girl was rushed to the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with a variety of serious injuries.
Police say that the driver did not initially stay at the scene of the accident. The vehicle was located a short distance away from the accident scene in West Utica.
Tickets will be issued. At this time, the investigation into the accident continues.
Pedestrian accidents tend to be some of the most injurious and fatal accidents that take place on our roads.
