Albany, NY (March 27, 2019) – On Wednesday, March 27th, police announced the arrest of an upstate New York corrections officer who has been accused of raping an inmate. According to authorities, 59-year-old Michael Snyder has been charged with a criminal sex act, rape, sexual abuse, and official misconduct following allegations of abuse.
Snyder, who has been working as a corrections officer for 19 years, was arrested for allegedly raping a female inmate three times over the course of the last two weeks. According to Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, the incidents were reported to have occurred inside of one of the women’s housing units where Snyder had worked.
At this time, authorities have not mentioned whether or not Snyder has been arraigned, has posted bail, or has been bonded. The investigation into the incidents is ongoing and no further details have been provided.
