Canaan, NY – Update: Authorities Release Identities of Four Workers Injured in Crash with Tractor-Trailer

Canaan, NY (March 26, 2019) – Authorities have released the identities of the four Thruway workers who were injured following an accident with a tractor-trailer on Tuesday morning, March 26th. New details have stated that the crash involved two thruway vehicles and a tractor-trailer along the westbound lanes of Interstate 90, near the Berkshire Spur, at mile marker 23.4.

Police reported that the accident happened around 10:40 a.m. when a tractor-trailer, operated by Sergio Cojocaru, 48, of Philadelphia, PA, moved from the driving lane into a work zone and subsequently struck a Thruway dump truck. The tractor-trailer continued to hit a second dump truck before striking a guardrail and coming to a rest in the median.

Emergency medical crews and police were immediately called to the scene, where they attended to four injured workers. The Thruway workers involved have now been identified as 40-year-old Brian Toniatti, of Poestenkill, 29-year-old Lukas Poucher, of Ghent, 40-year-old Jeremiah Case, of Hudson, and 40-year-old Timothy J. Blake, of Nassau. All four injured parties were transported to Albany Medical Center with injuries that have been classified as non-life-threatening.

According to police, Cojocaru has been issued tickets for violating the move over law, as well as other traffic and vehicle violations. No further details have been released.
