Islandia, NY (March 24, 2019) – Police have charged one person after a car accident when they determined he was driving recklessly and high on illicit substances at the time of the accident.
32-year-old Christopher Loeb was arrested after an accident on Friday night after he struck a lawn sign while he was traveling in a residential area. Loeb ran into an SUV police cruiser with an officer inside near Lakeside Trail in Ridge, then quickly fled the scene.
Court documents say that Loeb was traveling around 115 mph on the Long Island Expressway. He eventually pulled into a gas station on Old Nichols Road, which is when he was found in the nearby woods and arrested by police.
The officer who was struck in his cruiser received injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Loeb admitted to police that he had used heroin before he went driving.
Loeb was charged with various crimes in the past and has been charged following this accident. Loeb was also injured in the accident but is expected to be okay.
Police continue their investigation of this accident.
