Ridgewood, Queens, NY (March 20, 2019) – A fire broke out in the basement of a three-story private residence, resulting in the injuries of at least 10 people, including one firefighter. The blaze was reported to have started around 4:40 a.m. at the home located along Menahan Street and Cypress Avenue.
According to fire officials, the fire started in the basement of the building and resulted in nine civilians and one firefighter suffering injuries. The reported injuries appear to be rather minor at this time; however, five of those who were hurt were transported to local hospitals. Authorities stated that the injured firefighter was also hospitalized, but all parties are expected to recover.
It took firefighters approximately one hour to declare the fire to be under control, but no further information has been released. At this time, investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
