Stamford, NY (March 16, 2019) – Around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday evening, police in both New York and Delaware arrived at the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident that took one woman’s life.
Police quickly identified the party whose life was taken in this accident as 24-year-old Shannon German of Stamford. She was discovered lying in the roadway after being struck by a northbound tractor-trailer that was traveling north at the time.
The accident took place on Highway 10, also known as Lake Street. The highway was closed down by the New York State Department of Transportation and was closed for several hours overnight while police took a closer look at the circumstances.
The truck driver was identified as 50-year-old Peter Baldauf, who claimed that he did not see German lying in the roadway and struck her. He claimed this was why he continued to drive following the accident.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident.
