Manhattan, NY (March 10, 2019) – Around 9:20 p.m. on Friday night, an 8-year-old was struck by a minivan in a pedestrian accident that happened at West 135th Street and 5th Avenue.
The child injured in the accident received serious injuries and was allegedly transported to an area hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the child’s condition is not known at this time.
NYPD’s Highway Division confirmed that an investigation into the matter will begin to determine what circumstances led up to the accident. The driver of the minivan that struck the child stayed at the scene of the accident so that he or she could cooperate with police.
Police took the minivan for further investigation into the accident. At this time, they confirmed that no arrests have been made.
We would like to take this time to extend our sincerest sympathies to the child who was injured in this accident, with the hopes that they will make a complete recovery.
Pedestrian accidents tend to be some of the most injurious and fatal accidents that happen on our roads, mostly due to the fact that pedestrians are some of the most vulnerable parties on our roadways and have few protections from harm. This is especially true about children, who are more likely to run out into a road and will not look for cars before doing so. This is why drivers owe a legal duty of care to look out for the well-being of children at all times. If your child has been injured in a pedestrian accident in New York, you might wonder how you can proceed.
