Gerry, NY (March 7, 2019) – A drunk driver caused a crash on Wednesday, March 6th, and was reported to have fled the scene before being apprehended by police. 74-year-old Howard Roberts, of Cassadaga, was arrested after leaving the scene of an accident he caused on Route 60 at an unspecified time.
According to troopers, Roberts had been traveling north along the aforementioned route when he veered into the opposite lane. A vehicle that was heading south was reported to have attempted to avoid the collision but ultimately collided with Roberts’ vehicle. Roberts proceeded to turn around and flee the scene but was followed by good Samaritans who witnessed the crash.
A short time later, troopers arrived at the scene and located Roberts’ car in a nearby parking lot, where it had become disabled. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to UPMC Hospital in Jamestown and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Roberts was also taken to the same hospital, where he was arrested for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident after his release.
