Cortlandville, NY (March 4, 2019) – On Monday morning, March 4th, New York State Police responded to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident that took place along Interstate 81. The two-car crash was reported to have happened at around 6:43 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate.
According to authorities, a TLC Ambulance had been heading south along I-87 when it slowed to make a U-turn in the vicinity of exit 10. The ambulance was responding to a call with all emergency lights activated while a 68-year-old man from Baldwinsville was traveling in the passing lane in a 2019 Nissan Rogue. The driver of the Nissan then struck the driver’s side of the ambulance, lost control of the vehicle, and ultimately crashed into a guardrail.
The occupants of the ambulance exited the vehicle and attempted to assist the driver, who was unresponsive inside the Nissan. Another ambulance was immediately called to the scene where they transported the victim to Cortland Regional Medical Center. He was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.
No tickets have been issued and the identity of the victim is being withheld at this time. The investigation into the events of this crash is currently ongoing.
