Westbury, NY (March 1, 2019) – Police have released the identities of the three people who were tragically killed when two trains struck their vehicle on Tuesday night, February 27. According to authorities, 36-year-old Miguel “Angel” Jimenez Luna, 28-year-old Saul Martinez Caravantes, and Jesus Hernandez were the three occupants of the Jeep that was on the tracks when they were struck by two trains around 7:20 p.m.
The accident was reported to have happened after the SUV involved entered the tracks between the downed crossing gates after fleeing a minor crash in the area. An eastbound train with about 800 passengers and a westbound train carrying approximately 200 passengers were approaching at the same time and the SUV ended up sandwiched between them, subsequently bursting into flames.
The westbound train derailed due to the accident and crashed into the subway platform, ultimately injuring at least seven people on board the train. All three victims who tragically died were reported to have been working at Fine Fare Supermarket on Old Country Road just shortly before the incident.
