Upper West Side, Manhattan, NY (March 1, 2019) – At least eight people have suffered injuries following a two-alarm fire that broke out inside of an apartment building early Friday morning, March 1. The blaze was reported to have started at around 1:40 a.m. at the building located on West 76th Street, between Riverside Drive and West End Avenue.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene along with police and paramedics to extinguish the blaze and render aid to any injured residents. The fire was reported to be under control within one hour and eight people were rescued from the building. Paramedics at the scene stated that all eight victims suffered at least minor injuries and one dog was reported to have sadly died.
At this time, the cause of the fire is currently being investigated by authorities. The Red Cross is currently helping displaced residents and a full vacate order of the building has been issued by the city. No further information has been provided.
