Staten Island, NY (March 1, 2019) – Thursday night, February 28, a multi-vehicle collision on the West Shore Expressway resulted in the injuries of at least 14 people, one of whom suffered serious injuries. The crash took place at around 7:43 p.m. on the expressway, near the Victory Boulevard exit.
According to authorities, an MTA bus was rear-ended by a box truck; a construction vehicle was also reported to have been involved. Those vehicles suffered extensive damage, as other vehicles may or may not have been affected by the crash. Police and paramedics were quickly called to the scene, where they reported that at least 13 people had suffered injuries that are believed to have been minor, while one person sustained a serious but non-life-threatening injury in the incident.
Several vehicles that are believed to have been involved blocked a large portion of the expressway after the accident. The delays backed traffic up to the Staten Island Expressway as crews worked to clear the scene. The events that led to this incident are actively under investigation at this time.
