Manhattan, NY (March 1, 2019) – A police chase started after a suspect caused a personal injury accident when they backed their vehicle into a police officer on Thursday night, February 28. The incident began at the intersection of 96th Street and Second Avenue around 9:00 p.m., although the officer was injured on 15th Street.
The situation started when police attempted to pull over a vehicle at the aforementioned intersection but the driver crashed into the police car and headed onto FDR Drive. Police caught up to the vehicle on 15th Street where they attempted to approach the driver. The suspect then put the car into reverse and struck an officer before fleeing again, prompting officers to fire shots at the vehicle.
Emergency medical crews arrived at the scene and transported the injured officer to a local hospital with at least minor injuries. The suspects’ vehicle was eventually located abandoned in the vicinity of Houston Street. One person has been placed into custody at this time.
