East Harlem, Manhattan, NY (March 1, 2019) – One person was reported to have sadly lost their life, and one person was injured, following a fire that took place at a high rise apartment building. The blaze was stated to have begun at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 1, inside an apartment in the Wilson Houses located on East 105th Street, according to officials.

Firefighters were promptly called to the scene along with police and emergency medical responders. Authorities stated that a 62-year-old man was found unresponsive inside the building. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A 93-year-old woman was found to have sustained at least minor injuries, as well.

At this time, authorities believe that the fire broke out on the third floor for unknown reasons. It was reported to have been under control by 11:00 a.m. Police have not released the identities of the victims, as the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
