Graniteville, NY – One Killed and 10 Injured in Fire on Spartan Avenue

Graniteville, NY (February 28, 2019) – A house fire broke out in Staten Island on Thursday morning, February 28, that ultimately resulted in the death of one woman and the injuries of 10 other people, including firefighters. The blaze was reported to have started around 7:00 p.m. in the basement of a home located in the 100 Block of Spartan Avenue.

According to authorities, firefighters arrived at the scene where they tragically found a 55-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased victim was found in the basement apartment as smoke and flames extended to the first and second floors. The nephew of the deceased woman, as well as one other civilian, were reported to have suffered injuries in the incident.

Authorities at the scene reported that the 23-year-old nephew was transported to Richmond University Medical Center to be treated for injuries related to smoke inhalation. The other injured civilian was treated at the scene along with eight firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
